Internationality with Hanseatic tradition

As a family-run Hanseatic business, the DVA Group can look back on a tradition of almost 50 years – half a century – during which we have achieved a great deal.

  • Shipbroker Detlef von Appen founds the DVA Group as a company providing trade and export services.

    1968

    Horst Damm joins the company and establishes steel trading links with South East Asia.

    1972

    An overseas office is opened in Beijing where the company is among the first to establish international representation.

    The office relocates to Shanghai 20 years later.

    1980

    The group’s activities are divided to form a separate trading and shipping company.

    1983

  • The company branches out its trading activities into agrochemical products.

    1993

    Activities begin in the area of FOOD INGREDIENTS and Pharmaceutical Substances.

    1995

    The Mexican subsidiary is founded for the distribution of Pharmaceutical Substances, Food Ingredients and – from 2004 – also industrial chemicals.

    1998

    AGM – in which DVA now has a majority holding – is founded in Argentina to facilitate access to the market for agrochemical products.

    2000

  • Matthias Damm takes over the management of the DVA Group. A stake is aquired in the Mexican company VELSIMEX.

    2001

    Branches are opened in Brazil, Colombia and India.

    2003

    The DVA Group is divided into independent companies for the areas Plastics, Health & Nutrition and Agro, and the holding company DVA International GmbH is also founded.

    2007

    Market entry begins in selected African markets, starting with Tanzania and, from 2013, the Ivory Coast.

    2010

  • Intensification of the DVA Health & Nutrition activities in Germany and Europe.

    2014

    The new headquarters in the heart of Hamburg.
